I start back to work next week, and it is a good thing, because I can only clean house, knit, and exercise so much. Dave says that he has at least ten pairs of underwear, but keeps on wearing the same two pair because I do laundry so much. I'm just afraid of getting behind, because that is always what seems to happen when I work. I just can't possibly keep up with everything that has to be done around here. Everyone has promised to help though, and I hope so, because it does become very overwhelming. I'm excited to see the kids at work. I've missed them all so much. I checked Sam's blog the other day, and he has been blogging almost everyday. If you get a chance, go check it out. I'm so proud of him!

Sam Blogged At Home

Last Friday was the last day of summer school, and I really didn't think that Sam would work on his blog outside of school, although I hoped that he would. Yesterday, I stopped by his site out of curiosity, and was so thrilled to see a new post on wildebeests! When I worked out the task analysis on how to post a blog, it came out to eighteen steps that he had to follow, including opening a new tab for photobucket, finding a picture, and copying and pasting the HTML code into his post. By the end of summer school, he could remember everything without having to look at his instruction sheet. I'm so excited that he is able to do it on his own, and that he has acquired a new leisure activity that he can also do at home.

A Student Blog

I'm working with a student this summer who has a dual diagnosis of both autism and obsessive compulsive disorder. I have been trying to come up with ways to tie his academic goals and strengths in with some of his current obsessions. Here are some of his latest obsessions, to name a few... National Geographic, typing lists, watching movie clips on the computer, collecting animal facts, and listening to the Davy Crockett theme song over and over again. This weekend I was thinking about how I could incorporate some of what he loves in with his curriculum, and it popped into my head that he could learn how to blog. He has excellent computer and keyboarding skills, and he can follow both visual and written instructions, so I knew that he was capable. The next question was content, and it didn't take me long to come up with a subject in which Sam has the most knowledge, so today is the introduction of Sam's Animal Facts blog, hosted by Blogger. Today Sam learned how to fill out his profile, find a picture on Photobucket, copy and paste the code, and create a blog post. After he was finished, he asked if he could print his post, and better still, he wanted to know if he could blog again tomorrow! He has already decided which animal will be featured next. If you get a chance, stop by Sam's blog and ask him an animal question or just say hello.
