The Grand Canyon

Here are some pictures taken at the Grand Canyon. All that I can say about seeing it is WOW! I was awe struck by how immense and beautiful it is. It was also a bit intimidating to peer over the edge. Dave and Roman climbed down a ways so that they could stand on the edge of one of the rocks, and about gave me a heart attack. The other boys and I were too afraid to do that. It was a fun time, and after we had veiwed the canyon, we headed to Phoenix, Arizona, where we are staying now with Daves cousin, wife, and four kids. It is a full house, and right now I am listening to all of them laughing and playing the Wii. Dave went golfing, and I'm going to head out to the pool to relax and enjoy the warmth of the sun.

Hi Angela and thanks for stopping by my place...

I saw the Grand Canyon once, about 4 years ago and I agree, it was WOW! I know what you mean about peering over the edge...we had major butterflies just at the thought, but eventually got close enough to peer over. Sounds like an excellent time you're having!

Focusing on all of the wonderful gifts that nature has given us is the best medicine! Getting outside of ourselves and realizing that God has put these majestic things here on earth for us to enjoy is very humbling. All of a sudden our problems can feel so small and insignificant amidst all of this beauty. We get stuck in our daily lives cooped up in our homes and forget that it's not really about us at all. It's about enjoying the life God has given us and treating that life with respect. If we abuse that life we have done a huge disservice to ourselves. We are not here to be so self-consumed with ourselves and our problems. We were meant to enjoy life and live outside of ourselves, and hopefully these pictures will be a constant reminder of that.

Being reminded to enjoy the beauty around us and to realize life is bigger than us and our own problems makes you feel horrible? Knowing that you will have these beautiful pictures to remind you on a daily basis that life is beautiful, made you feel horrible? You are sadly missing the point of anyone who offers you strength and honesty. But perhaps that is part of your illness. You can't see yourself clearly so how could you see others clearly. I wish you luck in this small cyber world you have created for yourself where you never really have to see yourself for who you are. You can attract other people just like you and be coddled by others like you, and get unhealthy advice from other people like you. Then the cycle just continues and NO ONE gets better. Can you imagine if you surrounded yourself with physically and mentally healthy people? Just imagine.

Just Snap Out Of It

The weather here is still dreary, drizzly, and cold. I sit here as I type, wishing for fingerless gloves. Yes, I would wear them:) I'm still struggling with the depression, but reaching out for help. My psychiatrist raised my medication dose, so hopefully that will help. Eating and more nutrition would also help my mood, and yesterday I did better than usual, but today it was back to restricting. The full feeling is hard for me to sit with, even though I know that it will pass if I give it time. I just didn't want to go through that today. My nutritionist weighed me on Wednesday, and I've lost weight, although she wouldn't tell me how much. That is fine. I already knew I had lost, and though the eating disorder is thrilled by this, there is another part of me that is afraid. I'm afraid that I won't find my way out of this, ever. I’m sadly detached, as if I’m watching myself through a window. Everything is dreamlike and surreal, with the world spinning in slow motion, and yet I can’t seem to reach myself. I was hoping that some of the depression would lift. I don’t feel as hopeless, but I’m still feeling sad and despondent. I can’t pinpoint a reason as to why I’m feeling this way which is so frustrating, because I would fix it if I could. I’m glad to be at work, I’m slowly increasing my food intake, I’m going to all of my therapies, taking my medications, and going to the addiction recovery meetings. I’m doing what I can to take care of myself, but still this sadness hangs over me. I’m so tired of feeling this way. I’m hoping that the warmth and sunshine of spring will pull me out of this darkness. I always seem to lose hope in the midst of winter, so maybe the grey, dreary days wear me down, making me more susceptible to depression. I just don’t want to go through another winter like this.
